"Love and Other Words" Book Review

July 8, 2023

Although I read this book a while ago, it has always truly stuck with me. As I read this book, I could truly always feel the pain of Macy.

Once again, I read a romance. Shocker. But really, this is one of my favorites. It was obvious to me straight from the beginning that Elliot truly is a great guy and he cared so so deeply for Macy. Honestly, he raises my standards for men.

When the reader first starts reading, they see a quiet girl consumed in her medical residency (now that I think about it, kinda similar to "Happy Place" in that way), but once Macy bumps into Elliot, who she hasn't seen in years, the book unfolds into chapters of then and now. The flashbacks reveal how Macy and Elliot grew from friends obsessing over books to quite a lot more, and they truly were the closest of friends (maybe a little too comfortable with their conversations, though lol). The present allows Macy and Elliot to relearn each other and maybe, just maybe, come back together again. I also loved the suspense that leads up to the reader finally learning what caused the two to split up so long ago.

Boy do I love me some friends to lovers. That is hands down my favorite romance trope. However, not only is "Love and Other Words" a friends to lovers, it also has a lil second chance moment, which I adore.

Quick little fun fact for you, Christina Lauren, the author, is actually two women. They combined their first names to make their "author name"!

Anyway, I definitely recommend this novel to literally anybody who appreciates friends to lovers just as much as I do. Happy reading :)
