"Book Lovers" Book Review

July 6, 2023

Ahhh, yes. My favorite Emily Henry book. This book starts off as, for lack of a better word, seemingly a bit corny. The main character is an author, and she begins by talking about the common tropes that romance novels often have, and how those tend to play out in her love life.

She has gone through multiple break ups, in real life, when her boyfriend moves to a small town, falls in love with it, finds a new lover there, and never comes back. She even views herself as a cold hearted, workaholic literary agent bound to be alone in New York. When she meets Charlie Lastra, a publisher, for the first time, discussing one of the authors she is a literary agent for, she views him as rude while he is brutally honest about her client. Whenever she thinks about him after that, she likes to pretend rub the books' success in his snotty face.

However, when her sister, Libby, suggests visiting a small town from their favorite book of Dusty's as her last hurrah before she had another baby, Nora reluctantly agrees. Her and her sister had been growing apart recently, and Nora would do nearly anything to prevent that from continuing. But, what do you know - Charlie Lastra is there (of course).

Even though Nora thought he was pretty snobby, stuck-up and rude, she came to learn more and more about him as they kept bumping into each other in the small town of Sunshine Falls.

Spoiler alert below!!

Even though the chemistry between Nora and Charlie is undeniable, and they get together sooner in the book than you would expect, near the end, Nora and Charlie are forced to separate, although they don't want to. However, the way they reunited in the end was, to put it simply, perfect. There is really no better way for a publisher to surprise a literary agent (turned publisher) than in a book store.

"Book Lovers" is truly my favorite Emily Henry book, written with great characters and a plot that, although it seems cheesy at first, is really her best, in my opinion. Not to mention that these are also the most normal names she has used so far :)
